3 everyday Kmart products I use to groom my dogs…
and they aren’t from the pet aisle!
I absolutely love Kmart products, they’re cheap, on-trend and somehow you never leave with just the one thing you went in to buy! As a member of the Kmart Lovers Facebook group, I love seeing all the clever hacks people come up with — transforming everyday products into something completely different or finding brilliant new uses for them.
These creative ideas got me thinking, and I came across 3 everyday Kmart products which I now use every week in my dog grooming business.
1. Three tier trolley
Kmart describes this three tier trolley as a clever, space-saving storage solution for kitchen essentials — but I think it's even better as a dog grooming trolley!
I use mine to store all my grooming gear, including my clippers, snap-on comb attachment set, mini trimmers, scissors, brushes, de-matting tool, cologne, grooming hammock, grooming belly sling, slip lead, extra batteries, protective sleeves, happy hoodie... pretty much everything I need fits neatly on the trolley.
When I'm grooming, I set up my grooming table in the middle of the room and I move around it on my hairdresser stool as I work. Because the trolley is on wheels, I can simply roll it around with me, keeping all of my tools within easy reach without having to stop and search for what I need. It makes the whole grooming process much quicker, easier and more organised.
2. Weekender bag
This Country Road-inspired duffle bag is stylish, affordable and can easily be hacked into a dog grooming hammock!
I came up with this idea when I was setting up my dog grooming business. I knew all the equipment I needed was going to be expensive, and at the same time I had this duffle bag sitting at home ready to donate. So I thought, why not give it a go? I simply cut four leg holes, along with an opening at each end for the dog's head and tail to fit comfortably.
I hang the hammock from the horizontal bar at the top of my dog grooming table. It's fantastic for supporting older dogs that struggle to stand for long periods, dogs with mobility issues, or dogs that become anxious during nail trims and paw grooming. The hammock helps them feel secure and supported, making it much easier to trim their nails or tidy up their feet with far less stress for both of you.
3. Bag clips
These reusable bag clips are one of my favourite Kmart finds! What I love most is that the pack comes with two sizes — small and large. I've used them for years to seal food packages, but I also keep a couple of the large clips in my grooming trolley because they have a surprisingly handy dog grooming use.
When grooming a dog’s bum, their tail can easily get in the way, especially if they have a long, fluffy tail. If they suddenly move, which isn't uncommon when you're grooming such a sensitive area, it's easy to accidentally trim the tail fur.
To keep the tail safely out of the way, I simply use one of the large bag clips to secure the excess fur beyond the tailbone to the strap of my grooming belly sling. It's a simple little hack that gives me a much clearer workspace and helps make grooming safer and easier.
